ADVERTISING replenishes athletes' energy level faster! Wink

I just loooove all this new type of advertising: On a health drink - contains 0% fat. What? Was it going to float on top like Galliano?
Might as well add the fact that it also contains no Plutonium!!!

Enables you to break force field created by your illusion. Possibility is infinite. [name of drink] takes you to the level above the level which your preconceived notion places you. Your new paradigm is here ...

Something like that.

Why do I get the feeling that a washing detergent will beat sports drinks to that? Perhaps we should suggest this to P&G? Laughing

So... the drinks themselves aren't necessarily good for you, but they can be good for enhancing athletic performance.

Would that be a fair summary?

Yes, I think that's a fair statement.

I try and stay away from them due to the sugar/chemical contents

I've actually found that lemon perrier is excellent for preserving stamina

Has anybody thought about drinking this other really natural health drink that humans have been drinking for millions of years? Water? Rolling Eyes

Water's great during a workout or run

but for more intensive or prolonged exertion, you need to replenish what your body is losing

Carbohydrates, salts, fats...

What else is your body losing with strenuous exercise? I don't see how these energy drinks could do more than a glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice?

You cannot always get clean water. This is why we invented various drinks to take water. Soda that we know today is a variation of that, but it has its problems for variety of reasons.

That's a fair observation. But I do wonder if we haven't become more and more fragile over the years? Don't you think people were tougher back then?

Arguably, but how far would you want to go to become "tough"? Would you want to keep telling yourself that you'll be cured miraculously when you have cancer? Would you want to stay in bed for months hoping that tuberculosis will be cured when you can cure it using some drug?

Well, haven't some just lied down and died with cancer while others have climbed mountains when treatments have failed? I'm sure there must be a bit of mind-over-matter here... ? Don't you think?

Ok, ... you're making a good point, but my point is that the modern medical science has a lot of value and it really does something.

I won't argue with you there. Certainly modern medical science is really a wonder in its own right.

But I do wonder, for instance, just how much these sports drinks really do? (in my mind I'm picturing an American athlete topping up on sports drinks, and then - BAM - the Ethiopian runner is discovered, as he overtakes on the steep, long incline! Laughing Or better yet, the bushman as he runs 40km without water, never mind sports drink, to go tell another family of his discovery of a fallen elephant that needs their help in eating Very Happy )
