Americans are getting fatter at a rate never seen before, a report shows.

In the past year, the adult obesity rate rose in 48 of America's states, and nationally from 23.7% to 24.5%, Trust for America's Health found.

In 10 states, over a quarter of adults are now obese, despite campaigns alerting people to the dangers of over-eating.

More here.

Crazy, huh? 24.5% are obese, not just over-weight. I wonder what percent of people are over-weight.

Yes, it especially seems to be a problem in Alabama. I think there was a study that said AL was the fattest state. That's my state....and I can see how it's true.

I'm sorry to hear that, but, yes, that's what I hear and read. Apparently, most southern states and Midwest states have very high percent of obese people.

Fast food, I say! Too easy to aquire food - little or no hunting involved! Wink

I think our western world has adopted quite an eating culture. Now couple that with office work... Rolling Eyes

That's where I wonder sometimes about the myth of overpopulation. If we're so overpopulated, then why are we getting fatter and fatter? Confused

Because food is not distributed evenly.

I certainly believe that this is the problem! Too much food going to waste - inefficient distribution.

It would be interesting to see stats on how much restaurant food arounf the world goes in the bin. Perhaps it is enough to feed a continent?

But sitting I think is the worst on one's health! Sit in car... sit at work... sit in car... sit at table... sit on sofa... lie in bed...

I propose that restaurants & take-away places have a minimum of 1km between their front doors and their tables/counters! Whoever makes it in under 6 minutes gets served! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously, it's actually a not bad idea to walk for even 5, 10 minutes before and after the meal. If you are dining out, just park at a place where you'd need to walk 5, 10 minutes or so.

Also, if you have a sedentary lifestyle, living somewhere where there's plenty of stairs can help. Every little helps... Smile
