Is it normal that your motivation goes up and down? You're motivated some days, but you're not motivated other days?

Very normal to find your motivation goes up & down. It can depend on many things....how much sleep you've had, time of year, success (or not) in what you're doing, even the phases of the moon! It's when it goes down & stays there that you have to start worrying! Surprised

Ok, when do people get less motivated in term of the phase of the moon?

Also sometimes your inspiration wanes, and that's time to put it aside for a while and do something else if you can... no good in burning out!

It's like when you play too much chess, you get "chess-blind" after a while, and you can't even play a half-decent game anymore... nothing to worry about, but best to rest it out a while

There is this cycle, and there are times that you just cannot win, even if you have a weak opponent.

Exactly! You know for sure it's time to leave the game alone for a month or two when you start making "involuntary" queen sacrifices, and similar crazy moves!

I mean, anybody with an ELO rating of over 1700 shouldn't be performing such odd moves normally. Laughing

I would have to say that it is normal, I find that I can be motivated in the morning to get a lot of work done throughout the day, but something will happen and I will lose all motivation and not get anything done in the afternoon.

Anyother example is that I spend 15 mins in the morning getting ready so that I can go to the gym after work all pumped to get on the bench, but when the time comes I can just barely drag myself down there

hormone changes affect me. I love substituting (elementary school) but I don't even feel motivated to do that 2morrow. Definitely not normal for me:(

What about when you just can't put a task down? Is that the opposite extreme then?

Like being sort of over-motivated. Some days you can't pick a task up, while others you just can't put it down.

It's good to set up some sort of means to re-motivate you on a regular basis

like a subscription to a fitness magazine
