Post subject: Sugar with your cereal
Do you add sugar to your cereal...? Is this a bad thing to do, assuming that the cereal you're eating isn't already sweetened?

I don't think it's terribly bad, if cereal is not sweetened.
A lot of cereals contain too much sugar today. Milk for cereal also contain enormous amount of sugar. No one should eat these things, unless they want to develop million different diseases.

How do you mean by that? Isn't any sugar unprocessed?

I never do that..
If you want to sweeten your cereal you could try adding fruit. It's healthier than just adding sugar.

Yes--you get the sweetness plus the enzymes in the fruit will help to digest the cereal.

I already mentioned in some other thread, but Americans take an excessive amount of sugar in addition to the fact that they eat a lot. That definitely makes them become overweight. If you go outside of US, visit a couple of countries and see how they eat, it becomes pretty clear that Americans take way too much sugar. What's even worse is that this is not recognized as "addiction". So many Americans actually believe that "sweet" = "delicious."

Lol! Really, I never let pappaw make the bowls of cereal for the family because he always adds sugar to cereal! It could be lucky charms or corn flakes. It still gets sugar dumped in it.
yes, there is a value in sugar and it is calories. you can use these for energy, but really, you shouldn't do it this way because they are just empty kind of calories that don't have some protien or vitamins. So why subject yourself to the extra problems.
Hmmm.. I remember digging into a bag of brown sugar with a spoon and just eating a heaping spoonful of the stuff every now and again. Wow!!
PS. I never add sugar to any of my food anymore. I do use it to make Kool Aid occasionally. But NO! I don't sugar my cereals.

Yes, it does, but you don't typically say that sugar is nutritious. Generally speaking, most people take some amount of carbohydrate; for example, most people eat bread, rice or potatoes. They are not the most expensive food; as a matter of fact, they are generally cheapest. So, generally people don't suffer from not taking enough sugar or carbohydrate. Consequently, no one really talks about adding sugar in order to have a nutritious meal.

There are more natural ways to sweeten cereal, you can try sugar free jam or honey. Or I bet if you just eat it the way it is you will start to rpefer it without sugar.
