What makes some of us stick at the gym or that new sport while others lapse after the initial enthusiasm?

Some people simply lack patience and tenacity. Some people are so unfit that they have hard time exercising. For example, if you carry so much weight, then exercising can be exhausting. Also you can hurt your knees. Exercising can be enjoyable, but some exercise routines are boring. Also sense of community can make it enjoyable. If you take exercising class like spinning class, yoga class and cardio boxing class, you get to know people who take the same class. Small conversation here and there. You may not get to know them well, but it gives you sense of belonging, which makes you go back there every week. If you don't have that, exercising can become very boring. |

You could also argue, however, that if you carry a lot of weight, you are more likely to see the fruits of your labor more quickly. If you're overweight, surely the initial weight loss is the easiest and possibly the most noticable?

Possibly. It may not be a bad idea to develop exercising equipments for those who are over weight. I'm not so sure if something like treadmill is the best exercising equipment for those who are seriously over weight. |

Maybe something like swimming is better until some weight is shed. Less impact on joints.

If you're discouraged, just look at real state moguls and hedge fund managers like Donald Trump. You can convince yourself that looking fit and youthful isn't necessary (to attract young visually appealing women). |

A lot of things keep me from continuing from the gym. However once I stop it is EXTREMELY hard to get back into it. First there is the reason that I stopped, then you lose the energy that you had while going so fast that it is a hinderance to get started again.

How did you get on with your return to exercise, bluenoser?

It is going good, however I had to slow down on the weight lifting a lot since I aggravated my shoulder. I injured it a long time back and doing some bench presses with too much weight set me back a few weeks.

Another way to stay motivated is to keep variety. Try new forms of exercise, different routines. It will keep you interested and you'll get a better workout as well |

But I am fighting through that now, I am planning on playing B-bal twice this week and going to the gym twice. That is if my body lets me. |

Glad to hear it's going well... keep at it. Hopefully the weight you're losing is all the motivation you need.

Making a minor change or two should be sufficient. |
