I mean, look at massdebation, PR hangs around 2, irrespective of my effort. Then look at the winery forum, which I've completely neglected - PR just jumped to 3! How does that work???

I'm actually getting to the point where I'm more interested in yahoo & msn, as well as a few smaller SE's. Perhaps google going public hasn't been all that good an idea... doesn't individual efficiency drop with increased size of an organization?

I don't know, it's hard to say. One thing that seems to be the case is that there hasn't been any major improvement in SERP, though Google seems to be trying out a couple of different things.
