Post subject: Can you eat anything?
I think that it's not what you eat during the day, but rather how much you eat over the course of a day.
What are your thoughts on this?

Are you arguing that controlling the amount of food you eat is more important than the quality of food?

I would think so.
I mean doesn't starving yourself of a variety in favour of a few celery sticks make your body attempt to create fat as a way of storing energy it's not getting from that junk?
And also, no matter what you eat, if you eat enough of it (to overdo it) your body would find a way of storing some out of it?

To a certain degree, sure, but as you get older, your body cannot make such an adjustment so easily. This is why you need to adjust your diet.

It is better to eat more, smaller meals than fewer, larger meals if you are trying to lose or maintain weight...but it is usually because of quantity.
When you eat fewer, larger meals, you tend to overeat at meal time...when you eat smaller, more frequent meals, you are less likely to overeat.

Also, shouldn't one's eating habits be governed by one's bodily requirements (eg I am hungry, therefore I should make a plan to eat SOMEthing) rather than eating for pleasure?

I think you should eat only when you need to. Eating to just be eating is not healthy and will cause more weight gain. If you are a late night snacker you will tend to gain more weight also.

Yep, of course.
Most people respond to appetite, not hunger...and it should really be the other way around

Being full can give you some satisfaction, but if you keep eating too much, what ends up happening is that you need to eat a lot to get satisfaction; the funny thing is that you get a bigger satisfaction. This creates a downward spiral, and before you know it, you become obese.

That's true, but you can't starve yourself all day and eat fast food at night. When your body goes into starvation mode (4 hours+ not eating), your metabolism completely slows down to allow anything you put in your body to be stored as fat - it's a crisis defence mechanism. To counteract that, you DO need to eat smaller, HEALTHY meals 5-6 times daily, 2-3 hours apart. The quality of food is important...diet is 70% and what you eat should be seen as "fuel".

other thing is what should and shouldn't be eaten.
a couple of fast food meals a month wont ruin your health, won't probably do anything at your shape, but there's no need to say that if you can you should avoid them

it all comes down to how much you eat. you can eat all day if you eat in moderation and keep burning it off. if not you are one of those people we see on talk shows that is 980 pounds and has to be removed from their homes by a crane after the side of the wall was cut off.

I guess it just all depends on how motivated/determined you are to stay fit and healthy. If you're training 5-6 days a week and eat junk, you won't see results. The bottom line is you have to fuel your body for success.
