Post subject: Expanding midriff
What's the best way of controlling an expanding waist?
Eating less, more sit-ups... something else?

Of course ...
Kick boxing. Great exercise, and it really takes out fat from your waist. Practicing other Martial Arts can be good also.

Anything that is good for the core is good for the stomach. However if the midriff is expanding doing excercises like situps will not make it shrink. Ridding the fat that is around it through burning more calories is the only way.

The absolute best thing to control it is a proper diet. You need to find out what works best for your body type and exercise level

That is one of my biggest problems, I like to eat and I like to snack..
I am doing better now trying to eat chicken and salads as much as I can, and stopped drinking pop and most juices. Water, milk and coffee are my beverages of choice now.

But don't sit-ups help to tone those areas?
Also, if you've never done kickboxing before, how do you start? Is it something you can teach yourself in the privacy of your own home?

When you want to learn Martial Arts and also dancing, you can't just pick up "Learn Karate in 30 days" or "Learn to dance Tango in 8 weeks" DVD and learn by yourself. You need to take lessons and you need to learn from a properly trained instructor.

The thing is, I'm not very... errr... I mean my friend is not very... well, supple.
Is it important to be quite flexible to do things like martial arts.

You know, if you have a chance, taking a dance class might not be a bad idea. Dance class like modern dance, jazz, ballet, etc. You can learn how to use your body, and that really helps you to exercise effectively. Taking a dance class itself is also a great exercise.
