Post subject: Eating contests
Eating contest are, I think, very popular in the US. What surprises me is that the people that take part are not always that overweight.
How can this be?
And surely eating 58 sausages in 10 minutes isn't good for your health... what are the long term effects of something like this?

I don't think there are any longterm effects of joining eating contests every few months.. Most people probably don't gain weight from it because they only do it once. If a person would go to eating competitions every week then they'd probably end up having health problems..

But the people that compete in these events seriously, don't they also train/practice for them?

I used to landscape for a living, and would eat insane amounts of food without any weight gain. Now I work in an office, but still blow people away for how much food I can eat at once for being a trim guy.
I guess your stomach just develops and retains a certain capacity

I suspect that one of the "long term" effects must be a long term on the bog!!!

I think that they have great metabolism. This is probably why they don't gain so much weight. Also this kind of proves that what kind of food you eat and how you eat affect your weight a lot. For example, Americans take an excessive amount of sugar in addition to the fact that they eat a lot. That definitely makes them become overweight.

Man, we had one of these last week in my town. Everyone who participated was skinny as a toothpick.
Metabolism? Maybe

Frankly I don't understand the appeal of these contests.

Agreed. A couple of hours ago, I read about a man who died after a cake eating contest.
So it's not only dumb, but it kills as well.

eating contests are popular all over the world. these people train and work out for them like anything else. and the best and biggest eaters are not heavy people - they are thin

I think most of the people tend to practise for these occasions, therefore have the stamina do do these competitions with ease. For many, it's rather a hobby. I don't think it's a life threatening issue all the time, as many know what they are doing, and why they are doing it.
Of course, there have been moments where it has been life threatening as they have took it too far, and not paid attention to their bodies. Usually, when we are hungry we get that call from our stomachs and we follow it, our body acts as an alert. It helps in these competitions, if people are disciplined and educated to be mentally and physically aware of their bodies, before that final hit, and when it takes over, before it's too late to stop.

I actually honestly believe that I could compete in some of the eating contests. I always have felt that I could
