I'd go with forums on this one because they tend to generate more pageviews and if you have a good CPM advertising company you can make a lot.

You also need to put some effort just to make one blog entry. Now, if you really want to create a blog that generates revenue, you need to make so many blog entries; that takes discipline. Forum, on the other hand, is interactive. You have a collaborative process in process. That can make life easier.

A more established blog, with greater longevity will appeal more to people as well as to search engines.

Partly... but also to build up a reputation. A blog that's only been going a couple of months has negligible credibility. A more established blog, with greater longevity will appeal more to people as well as to search engines.
