DOes anyone here practice yoga? Did you start by going to class?

I have been doing a lot of reading on yoga and have even been practicing some movements in the evenings for my back.

I have done many classes at the gym. i find it incredibly hard and I am usually literally worn out after yoga classes. i am not flexible so it is very hard for me.

One thing about yoga is that you have to no your limits. There is nothing in yoga saying that you have to do all of the movements perfectly the first time. Always just go to the point where it just becomes uncomfortable, and do not press it.

Yoga is more about the quiet and the form, and less about how flexible you are. Flexibility comes from practicing yoga, you don't do yoga because you are flexible

I agree and will admit to trying to do more then my body could do and that usually hurt me the most. have to go in more moderation and work up, like everything else, lol

I really shouldn't be preaching, I am bad for over doing it at sports.

I was laid up for almost a week after playing hockey for the first time for the season. It was also the first time on skates for two years, and even though we were only playing shinny, my competitive spirit made me go full out.

I am doing better now, I am starting to keep it easy.

I am also starting to push my body and eat more so that I can recover faster. I am doing more now than I have for years so I really have to eat for it.

Very good stuff.

Let me know how it goes, I still have to find the right class so that I have something to go to every week

I think I'd like to try yoga, but I'd need to find a class that caters for completely unsupple beginners. I get the impression that most yoga classes are for that can do the splits without trying.

Just look up some beginner classes, and talk to the teacher. Ask if you can try one class for free. I have used this before to try to find a class that I am comfortable with and most are very open to it.

that is what i did yesterday. when we went to the gym on sunday I asked for the most BEGINNER of classes. I am actually going to take a few weeks of stretching and flexibility classes first before hurting my self at yoga again.

Congrats,

I have decided that I have to start doing more on my own, so I have added a topic on a blog that I write for which is My Fitness Update.

I am posting my daily weight, 5 day moving average and what I did that day. Today is my first post.
