I think that I got shin splints in my right leg. I felt it after playing a especially hard and long game of basketball the other day.

I am wondering if there is anything that I should be doing to prevent this from happening again, I know that to heal them all I really have to do is rest.

when i was an athlete in school I had terrible shin splints. I had to have dixie cups of ice always ready to ice my shins down after running or basketball. in the end I had to really just rest for long periods or just deal with the pain, which at times was terrible/unbearable.

Are you Serious????

Damn, I was really hoping that there was something that I could do to try to lessen the pain, other than ice since I play ball at lunch during the day and don't have ice on hand

Wear proper shoes. Your doctor may recommend a shoe that's especially suited for your foot type, your stride and your particular sport.

I think that this is the big thing for me, I think that my shoes are on their way out.

when i was having issues with this we tried everything because i was a 3 (and sometimes 4) sport athlete in school and it really hurt to do anything. I ended up with authotics (sp??) for my shoes which were very expensive and always had to buy better shoes in general because the cheaper ones did not have the support or durability that was needed.
