I have this perception that counseling is a part of western medicine, but is it? I also have another question. Are all counseling conventional medicine or some are considered alternative medicine?

I suppose that chatting with your friend can be considered "counseling", but official "counseling" is something like chatting with your friendly neighbor enlightened priest.

But western medicine seems to try to mask symptoms with meds rather than deal with the problem, most counsellors guide you to actually fix the problems without meds.
