Did anyone see the programme on this woman that was aired just before Xmas in the UK? It was quite shocking, really...

Well, this TV celebrity has been going into people's homes and telling them what they should and shouldn't eat, etc. The programme investigated her credentials and discovered she's not really a doctor at all, and that many of her recommendations/reasons are nonsense.

Doesn't sound very educational to me. Was it entertaining at least?

Is she American or British? I can't find anything about it on Google.

Making up some nonsense and making money? She must be a Brit!!! (just kidding)

But seriously, this type of thing is becoming a big problem in US, and I presume this is happening in UK as well. Particularly, there are number of weight loss programs and they give instructions on how to lose weight, but they have really no evidence that those who went through the program actually lost weight. In case of TV, it's innocent enough, since you don't really pay to view programs (except for the basic cable fee), but there are programs that charge a lot. Video, DVD, books, seminars, training sessions, etc.

She sounds Scottish. She claimed to have been on the Oprah Winfrey show (or similar) but investigations into that made it clear that it was a pretty tenuous claim.

Sorry, I got the name wrong in the original post... it's Dr. Gillian McKeith.

I'll correct the original post.

Does she actually have Doctorate? I hope it's not one of those paper PhD or Doctorate.

Yes, very much a fake degree by the sounds of it, and this is what the documentary was stating.

However, she may well have a PhD prior to the correspondence course, and so have the right to call herself Dr. I know someone else who does this on occasion Wink

This 'you are what you eat' series is due to start on Ch 4 tonight - I've just checked with teletext & it's still scheduled! So they're not THAT worried about her!!

After all, let's face it, anyone with a bit of nous can be pretty genned up on diet & advise others not to eat junk food but to eat healthily!

Oh!!! Quite by chance (talk about serendipity!) I've come across her website!! Shocked

You will notice that at the bottom of her homepage, it says
'PLEASE NOTE: The content of this site is currently undergoing review for accreditation.
This process should be completed by early 2005. Site last modified: 20 December, 2004'

Confused

However, you might like to read this biography...

What do you think? (Seems she's known in the US too.)

She graduated from the University of Edinburgh and received her Masters Degree from the Ivy-League University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Her PhD or Doctorate is kind of questionable, but she has master's from UPenn. That's really something.
