Post subject: Tobacco products behind curtains or doors, right or wrong?

The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Saskatchewan can reinstate a controversial law that forces store owners to keep tobacco products behind curtains or doors; the top court ruled Wednesday morning that the province could impose the so-called "shower curtain law," which was passed in 2002 to hide cigarettes from children but struck down a year later by an appeal court. Everyone is talking about anti-smoking nowadays, while smoking itself is still legal around the globe. Is it appropriate to enforce stores to hide tobacco products behind curtains or doors? Right or wrong?

If shopkeepers don't display them, they won't sell them, that's the bottom line. If someone comes into a shop for cigs, looks around, & doesn't see any, they'll go straight out again. It won't stop them smoking, they'll just buy them elsewhere. I should think the shopkeepers are furious!

Actually, this is a province law, so every store in Saskatchewan has to hide cigarettes. Customers know this, of course, so I presume that they ask around instead of look around. Still, this is very inconvenient to shopkeepers.
