Post subject: The speed with which you lose fitness
I went to the gym today on my bike. Its about 15 miles there and back and I havn't been on my bike for about 6 months. I'm absolutely knackered
Scary how quickly you lose your fitness when you don't exercise particular muscles.

Yes, it is scary!!
Even doing gentle yoga exercises after not practising it for a while can make your muscles ache!

But isn't it very difficult to try to use every single muscle in your body? Do you need to use every single muscle in your body as you exercise or there is some point that you can compromise?

It's also striking how quickly you can re-gain it. At the beginning of this year, when I play football on a Wednesday, I was struggling with the one mile jog back into town. I did it yesterday, and found it quite comfortable. In just 5 or 6 weeks, I think I have re-gained a reasonable level of fitness.

Just look at Morgan Spurlock from the movie Super Size me. It took him 1 month to gain 30 or 40 pounds and something close to a year to lose the whole thing.
