I was reading in the newspaper today about research done into this subject recently that found that women don't like muscles on guys.

This is proved by comparing men in mens magazines and womens magazines. In mens magazines the models are generally muscular and fit, whilst in womens magazines they're slimmer and less muscular. More Jude Law than Bruce Willis.

Any girls here care to comment?

There is a very clear contrast, isn't there?

Yes, I think the contrast highlighted was the contrast in perception between men and women. Men think that girls want them to be muscley. Girls think that men want them to be very thin.

The reality is often different.

This applies to women as well (I think). A lot of magazines show slender models, but generally speaking, men like regular body, not bigger body, but you know, regular body.

With regard to your original question, I think we need to wait for Thais's response.

My personal opinion (as woman) is that athletic healthy look that is attractive not the muscles.
Self-confidence, charm, intelligence are more important than muscles.
I find Bruce Willis more charming than Jude Law, not because of his muscles but because he seems to have more self-confidence, humour and warmth, while my impression of Jude Law is only his pretty face. I might be very wrong with my superficial judgements though.

I(we) have a question for you, Arura. Do you think that magazines and books for women tend to portray slender woman very attractive?

Beauty and attaractiveness the way it is portrayed by media is an illusion created my marketing forces to make women feel bad and unsatisfied with themselves and therefor buy the marketed products as quick solutions to problems..

This is so true. Businesses always tell you that customers have so many choices, but the irony here is that you need to eliminate choices except for one, your product, in order to sell it. You almost need it necessary for the customer to buy the product. Consequently, it is perfectly logical for beauty product company to make women(and men) to think that they need to have the company's product to look good and be able to appear in the public place.

Yea, it's my primary hobby now. Keeps me trucking from day to day Smile

Nothing like putting the days work/stress/etc. behind you for an hour or two and hitting up the gym! Smile

yeah, being in the gym is pretty fun, but you gotta go where you know people, be with friends
although time will go by slow, and you really wont find any motives to go, even if you're out of shape

Personally, I use a gym for cardiovascular exercise rather than for pumping weights. I just find weights a little boring.
