I notice you have a lot of spam sign-ups (ie. users who sign up and enter a web address in their profile but never participate). Strangely, though, I'm seeing addresses from this domain in their Profiles. Is this because you have edited this yourself by hand?

Yes. I did not want to have references to dodgy sites, so I replaced all with links to this site.

You know you could do things to stop them even doing this in the first place? Would save you a lot of hand editing.

Is there any way in phpBB to not allow people to put their web address until they get a number of posts?

Yes, in a way. They still enter their address, but you can prevent it from showing until they reach 'x' posts.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to have any record or reference in the database.

Well, there will be a record in the database, but it just won't be seen by anyone.

I'm a bit confused though. You can sort my users by posts ascending here: http://www.massdebation.com/memberlist.php.

I mean, I've got a dozen or so members who have signed up but never posted. And their registration dates range up to all the way back to almost a year ago.
No website address supplied by most, so my question is: Why go through the effort of signing up and not posting? I can understand a spam signup wanting to try get a free inbound, but look at all these with no websites listed?
Are they just bored? Could it be that they go around signing up at forums for a kick? Question

Many people just sign up as some kind of habit. This is why spam emails are still so popular today; people just sign up and they often give out their personal information. They even give out username and password often.

If their spam sign-ups (you can often tell by the username), it could be that the web address is yet to be added.

Number of spam emails has increased, and this is becoming a bit problematic.
