Does the hypochondriac worry himself sick over being ill? :p

I do think that it does happen sometimes, but not always.

Do you think the hypochondriac knows he is a hypochondriac? Or does he honestly believe there is something wrong with him?

Some are probably aware, but some are probably not.

This is really a learned behaviour isn't it? Perhaps it comes down to how one defines being ill. A sniff for some means a cold to them, while to others it's just a sniff perhaps?

Psychology does affect your physical condition pretty significantly, IMO.

Which in turn can affect one's psychological state, not so? Can be quite a downward spiral if not caught & dealt with in time.

Seems the only real turnabout can be initiated through the mind? Suppose change of scenery can also affect the mood and get one thiking more positively too.

No, I don't think that's the only thing that can heal you, but I do think it's a critical component.

Do you think that drugs help, or do they merely create a false sense of reality?

I do think drugs help a lot.

I can understand why you feel certain resistance and skepticism, and probably rightly so, but drugs do help a lot.

That said, I do believe that modern medicine seems to have created more problems than there need to be in US (and some other countries).

Drugs should probably best be used just to break a cycle then, and then move onto a sort of behavioural therapy.
I just think that long-term use of drugs really just creates a false sense of normality, and does not address any of the underlying issues.

Then there is also the question of dependency too.
