Post subject: Stress, lack of sleep, etc. Major contributing factors?
Everybody experiences lack of sleep and stress at various points in their lives. But not everybody reacts equally to it. For those who react especially badly to these, could it just be from how they grew up?
If so, then could it be that there are people taking psychiatric prescribed medicines for something that's really a learned reaction?

Everyone makes mistakes and everyone fails in life so many times. What differentiates those who ultimately succeed from those who ultimately fail is how they react to it. Those who manage to get something positive out of mistake and failure will succeed in the end, while those who do not will fail in the end.
Something similar can be said about one's health. Surely, there are things that you cannot change. If you lose your leg, you can't grow your leg. If you get cancer, you can't seek cure in some cases. However, in many cases, you can react positively. That's very important.

And this, in turn, can help increase your overall happiness. Suppose it all really just comes down to expectations and perspectives.... amongst the odd expletive!!! lol

I think sleep is a major factor for many people's mental health (not all).
If you don't get enough sleep, you can be more prone to stress. If you dno't get enough sleep, you don't always think rationally. If you don't get enough sleep, you don't spend your days as effectively.
All these things can contribute to your mental well-being...

This is true. It's a terrible downward spiral.

When I go weeks on end without proper sleep I become rather explosive. This it what happens. I finally get to sleep and oh it is so nice......zzzz. Something ignorant happens, like the phone rings, or Somebody is at the door for what ever reasons. I wind up getting angry and yelling because it is impossible for me to return to that restful state.

I can sometimes also become a bit short-fused, although I don't quite explode... might snap a tad, but generally would be too tired to do a decent job of exploding - probably just fall over and sleep!

Exercise ...
Eat a small meal before you sleep (though you probably don't want to do this too long) ...

sleep is one of the most major factors to you mental health. some need it more some need it less. for example, us (especially programmers) do a real mental job all day long troubleshooting, task-solving, etc. that exhausts the brain and we need more sleep than others (i think).
but I don't think we get it that often (if not rarely) so it really depends on your day and how are you spending days on your mental health. also, you always need to find something to relax, otherwise you're in for some ticking off and things like that, which can cause even more stress since you can do things in that situation you'd never done otherwise.
