I've been following news and reports on antidepressants, and I often hear that, when you are on antidepressants, you are stable more or less, but the most dangerous time is when you get off the medication. Then, I also wondered if this applies to other drugs and substances that affect your mental state. How about smoking? Does this apply to smoking? For example, right after you quit smoking, can you become unstable?

Not having been a smoker (never even tried it), I have no real idea. However, I would think that any sudden change to a well established routine is going to inevitably be prone to instability.

One thing I often here is that you gain weight after you quit smoking. That triggers some heart condition. It's not some mental illness, but it's bad enough.

I'd have to say that probably not right after a cigarette but if you get into a routine of smoking constantly or at certain times and then try to stop, it would have to make a person unstable and be subject to irritation.
