French schools are removing their soda and junk food vending machines to provide healthier environment to students. This perfectly makes sense if you want young students to stay healthy while they stay away from junk food. But is this their right? Can they just force you what to eat and what not to eat?

Its the French... They're always a little different...

They have a cradle to grave society forming over there... they'll be eating government issued diets soon enough...

seems a little silly in general, but health issues like this are invading schools in all countries because so many of the younger people are way overweight at younger ages now.

Let's face it, our youth has been raised with Pepsi, Snickers and Petit Gervais and have a good chance to pass that on to the next generation. Education certainly takes place at school as well. No objection, quite on the contrary.

Ever been to France, jpd1975? Wink

I think schools have the right but if I ever had kids, they'd get homeschooled or be put in a private school. Public education is a JOKE.

THAT IS not really fair to say. there are some great public schools around me and most people can not afford private schools - and home schooling is a quick way to having kids with no social skills at all.

Some schools here are doing the same thing; getting rid of the junk food that they sell in their cafeterias. As far as I know they still allow you to bring your own junk food if you wish, but by making only healthy foods available they hope the kids will be more likely to eat what's in front of them.

A few days ago there was a story in the paper about the diet at Riker's Island prison being changed to a healthier but blander one. The theory is that they'll save money on health-care costs for the prisoners, but some of the prisoners are complaining about being forced to eat healthy. I have to wonder what would happen in the opposite situation, where people were only provided with unhealthy foods? Lawsuits, I tell ya!

Having faith is a lot easier than doing the hard, patient work of science.
