I personally think that the both quality and the quantity are important. They are not mutually exclusive and we need to think carefully about both.

I agree. what people fail to remember is that you can eat to many apples, or to many bananas. you can overeat even healthy stuff if you eat to much of it.

Ya, you can eat a ton but you have to remember the basic rules - exercise and eating healthy.

I agree that you need to exercise also.
However, can you not lose weight by dieting alone?

true, but it is 75% diet. I spent 11 years running the biggest health club chains on the east coast and getting certified with every available ceritification and I dont care how much you work out - you eat bad y ou will still gain weight, look crappy, and probably die young, lol

I think you can eat anything you want, so long as you use moderation, and only consume within the limits of your physiology.
You should also look for the healthier versions of those junk foods you crave, so that the impact is not so severe. Replacing ice cream with frozen yogurt, and similar substitutions are important. Keep in mind that this isn't a license to eat more of the junk food because it has less dietary impact.
One thing you do not want to get in the habit of is having a "cheat" day, where you can eat anything you want. If you need a cheat day, it means you're on a diet that you can't maintain, and you need to counterbalance it by7 going overboard for that one day. Make a adjustments in your daily routine so that you don't need these kinds of cheat days. Eating great on Wednesday isn't going to mean much if two days later you eat nothing but garbage.
Your physical activity level and genetics are also going to determine how much you can eat. I'm at the point where what I eat affects how I feel more than it does how I look, but how I feel is crucial to my performance.
The bottom line is that some people are going to be able to get away with eating more crap than others, and some people will hardly be able to handle any kind of junk foods without negative repercussions. This is life, just as some people are poor and some rich, some get fat easily, some don't.
You have to workout a plan for your own body.

or you could go to the other end of the spectrum and only eat Snickers bars all day long. Nothing else but Snickers!

What are your thoughts on this?
I think it works on both counts, as it does really depend on what you eat and how high in calories it is.

simple - if you eat high calorie unhealthy food right before you got to bed, you will gain wait. not rocket science.
if you dont exercise and eat poorly, you will gain wait. again, not brain surgery.
