I can't imagine that face transplants will ever become common, unless they're for acciddent or burn injury victims. I doubt it could be used to cosmetically enhance faces all that well because there are many things that affect a person's looks that have nothing to do with the skin... underlying bone structure, fat deposits, muscle tone etc.

They just carried out a face transplant on Pascal Coler in France. He was suffering from nuerofibromatosis.

Check out those pics!

Well, at least it's an improvement... but clearly the science is in its infancy.

Unless I've missed it, we don't have a discussion about the recent face transplant on here.

I think there's a lot of different issues we could discuss here. What are you thoughts on it?

Is this both in relation to plastic, and natural?

I think there are a lot of social issues and implications involved in this area, and they have become popular contrary to what Soliloquy says. There are more people, worrying about what they look like on the outside to try and conform, to what others think of them. Although in saying that, there are opposites as it may be a death threatening situation, whereby the individual has to have a face transpalent in order to survive. It all very much depends on the individual, and what we see or think, is not important as we are not in the drivers seat. Only of course, if we ourselfs decide to have one, than that would be a complete different experience.
