Yes, my blog at www.calumneilson.com/blog didn't earn much for the first 2 months but in its third month it went up in earning like 300% and I started getting loads of hits from Google.
My CTR is high for my blog as well, same with eCPM, but its not making nearly as much as my forum yet.

Yeah but I bet your forum is getting more hits than your blog. If your blogs eCPM is higher then to earn more you just need raw hits.
Ya, my forum is getting a lot more hits. My blog is still young.

Yep, blogs normally always have a higher CTR, if you are looking for ways to increase your CTR you can see here:

Thanks for the article that was very informative. I am still new to this and from my own business world experience the only way to get ahead is always find improvements, implement them and check back after you implement them to ensure that they are actually returning the investment you hoped for...

I am still in the stage of getting the traffic to really worry about click through ratio as of yet.. that is my current focus.
But I do run a Blog that has a small but steady group of folks that check in and with minimal effort (it was my first leap into running any sort of site.) And this could be helpful for that.
Thanks,

I think you are right to focus on that to start with. There is little point trying to adjust % CTR if the total click revenue is minimal. Initial priority has to be to get traffic.

I don't think it really related to a forum or blog, its more the content that your site has and if users find it useful and informative they will continue to come back.

It is based on the niche. It is a fact that forums have a lower CTR than blogs but if the forums have a far higher CPC then the forum could earn more, it also depends on how many people visit.

I think the original question assumes all other things being equal. ie. if it's a forum about gadgets, or a blog about gadgets, which would perform better? Of course, if it's a forum about gadgets and a blog about travel... then, it all depends. Smile

If there was a forum about gadgets and a blog about gadgets each with the same amount of traffic from the same source then the blog in theory should earn more because they have a higher CTR normally but there could be other factors such as placements.

Forums have a lot more return users and they dont click the ads.

Exactly, blogs have a much higher CTR but forums can get more users.

It also depends on niche. I mean hosting niche can pay $1 per click but gaming niche can only pay $0.01 per click.

Web directory is the most profitable. Forum can make your life easier, because it’s more interactive.

But forums don't make you rich too early. They take some tome to flourish but they do the magic after having a good PR and traffic.

Unless you make it really big, I'm not convinced that directories or blogs are the way forward. I have best success with affiliate marketing - creating useful content, getting visitors and selling 'products' on the back of that creation.
