I think there should be a forum on psychology or psychological aspect of health.
There seem to be more than enough on alternative therapies.
But then again maybe its not necessary, maybe I am asking for this because I trained as a Psychologist.

Well, we do have mental health forum, but apparently, you feel that it's not the same. Why do you think we need a forum on psychology or psychological aspect of health? If we do create one, how, do you think, we should name it and describe it?

I think you should first try a poll and see if regular forum members will like a forum on that topic and if this was my forum I will call such forum something like: All in the mind or Psychology and well-being or something like that.
I am not a health care professional but I think quite a fair amount of health and well-being is down to Psychology and that will not fit into you mental health forum for example lots of people use hypnosis to help then stop smoking, that is not a metal health issue that is a psychological issue because hypnosis uses psychological manipulation to help you give up smoking...... like I suggested create a poll and lets see if other members apart from me will like to see such a forum.

Well, I'll just wait and see if someone else has a say on this. If necessary, I'll create a poll; since there aren't that many members right now, I don't see the need for it, but I'll see. If we find that many of us are keen on creating a new category or two, we'll do. If not, we'll wait Wink .

To flip the current though on its head, the new category may attract new members because they may peak into the forums, see that the topic that interest them is not there and just go to another forum.
I don't think you should cater for existing members only, you also need to lay the grounds to attract potential new members whose interest may be different from the interests of existing members.

I think mental health is pretty much psychology,

if someone has an unusual urge to do something it's a mental problem which will usually have a unique fix, this is where the psychology aspect of things comes into play.

I'd recommend putting psychology in the description.

Ok,

Currently, Mental Health is placed under General Healthcare, but we'd create a new category like "Mental Health"(?), rename the existing Mental Health forum to something like General Mental Health Discussions and add new forum focusing on psychology? How does that sound?

I believe - although I may be wrong - that Temi (as a psychologist) is referring to the mind-body (not to mention spirit) health connection. That is, the underlying thoughts, beliefs & convictions which regulate a person's health status.

For example, one who is loving, compassionate, caring & giving will be far less likely to become ill than one who constantly harbours resentment, hatred, jealousy or anger.

I don't think he realises it, but these connections are part & parcel of the knowledge that a complementary health practitioner utilises when he/she gives treatment. Learning to meditate, for instance, is usually part of stress management - getting to the place where that inner you or inner peace lies.

To me, that is all just part of 'alternative medicine'.

How much, do you think, does one's emotional state affect one's health?
