Researchers report that being either too thin or too heavy may lower a man's sperm count, in some cases enough to impair fertility. In the study of nearly 1,600 young Danish men, the investigators found that those with either a low or high body mass index (BMI) had differences in reproductive hormones, as well as lower sperm counts than normal-weight men. So, we have yet another reason why most of us don't want to be over-weight (or under-weight). I say "most of us" because I think some men do not wish to have any child. |

Is this just plain data or there is some cause and effect? |

Well, the article is available now, and it appears that there is a correlation between weight and hormones:

What's BMI? I know that it has to do with your weight, but what does it indicate specifically? |

Well, the study points out that weight problem can affect sexual functions such as your sperm volume, BUT it does not say that sexual functions are effected to such an extent that you cannot bear your child. |
